Mystery goo........
Culprit is a 1995 E150 5.8L w/187kMiles. I recently had to replace the radiator in this vehicle and noticed that there was a gooey substance that ran out of the port where the transmission fluit line goes into bottom of the inner-radiator (transmission cooler.) It was thick and dark brown goo almost like used 20K engine oil only much thicker! The reason I replaced the radiator was it had a crack that opened up in the upper tank that was J-B Welded by previous owner approximately 2 years prior! Makes me wonder now if I should have flushed the external cooler (up in front of the radiator) when I replaced the old radiator. The transmission has been serviced every 15K (fluid & filter) and has always shifted fine and showed no fluid/coolant contamination whatsoever and t-fluid is always nice and reddish-pink! I'm thinking that someone may have added a transmission treatment, (i.e. Lucas or trans-stopleak ,etc.) and this was residual goo from it in the bottom of the old radiator/trans-cooler. The goo literally ran out like "molassass" when I layed the old radiator on the driveway! Thanks

in bad cases you can see some what similar stuff on the bottom of the t-fluid pan, especially around magnet, consisting from plastic and metal powder with particles too small to be trapped by filter.
This radiator, may be it is designed to have quiet place to trap such stuff?
