Just a word of warning to anyone on Medicare. I've had full Medicare coverage since 1999, as well as a Community Care Rx prescription program, which was recommended by my pharmacy. I've watched a number of the televised programs offered by the State concerning the Medicare changes, which was intended to offer their suggestions towards making an informed decision regarding your prescription coverage. I have yet to find anyone with a definitive answer on that. Just a few weeks ago, my pharmacists suggested what I had was the best coverage they were aware of. I went to pick up a script on Saturday, and was told I no longer had ANY coverage! A local story in the newspaper stated "some low income Medicare recipients are not in the Medicare database, residents that are erroneoulsy not listed will have their prescriptions paid for by the State." My pharmacist is unaware of this policy, and as of this moment, my scripts have not been filled. It might be a good idea to see if you still have coverage before requesting to have any script filled. Maybe the folks at Medicare mistakenly used a New Orleans zip code on my billing address.....
Another serious new problem is with Medicaid and the amount of meds you can get at one time. My in law would get all his meds for the month at the first of the month, which were a lot, then send in the bill, and they would get paid for. Now the insurance company will only give a limited amount of medicine at a time, to last a specific number of days. If you have to take some extra, or lose some, then you are out of luck untill the company says you can have more, unless you pay for it yourself.
How is a disabeled older person, who cannot drive, whose alertness is not what it once was, be able to keep up with 15 different medications, their renewal dates, and get back and forth to the pharmancy 10 to 12 times a month. The pharmancy was out of his most important medication for 2 days this month, the other medication he was out of they would not let him have for 3 days because the insurance would not pay for it until then.
This "new plan" is a real bunch of crap. Where someone in the family would pick it all up at the first of the month, now different people have already made around 15 different trips for the same stuff, and still don't have all of it.
Thanks a lot for the help congress.
