Charging Problem

The other night I was driving along and all of a suddon my lights whent dim and my blower motor slowed down and after a couple of miles it was back to normal. This has happened a couple of times in the last week. I was told it was probebly the alt. so I just put a new one on it(with a new belt). I went out this morning and put my plow and plowed for about 1/2 hr and as soon as I finished up my bat. light was back on and my alt gauge was down. I ran and got a volt meter and checked the voltage ant the bat. whith it idling and volrage was dropping(the truck died shortly after). Could this be a bad battery or somthing else?

Welcome to FTE !!!

By the sound of it, you have a bad alternator again. Take the new one back to the place you bought it & have them test it.
What year & model truck is it?
AL.

Its A 99 ford superduty with a 5.4l . I had the battery checked this morning and it was bad but would that cause the problem(internal short)?

Thanks
Matt

With the new battery, do the voltage check again and see what you have.

Same, It was around 12 V . It did however start to charge after running it for a little bit. Then I had 14.4V. I hate intermittent electical problems!!!

Wiggle the wires around while checking the voltage. 14.4v sounds good when it works.
