LAST EDITED ON 10-Jul-01 AT 01:15 PM (EST)[p]After the automatic shifter collar on my '73 F-350 broke the engine wouldn't crank. I traced it to a non-reactive neutral safety switch. I say non-reactive because it no longer moved with the shift tube. You see, there is a little pin that moves the switch when the shifter is moved. In my haste to some how get home when the shift collar broke, I broke the little pin off of the shift tube. I should mention that I can start the engine with a switch, but I would rather have it right.
Has anybody had this problem? Is the actuator pin for the neutral safety switch available? Where might I find a shift tube?
Might find it new at a parts store. Probably better luck finding
a donor at a yard. I think you'd be able to find it new because its a safety mec. I'm not sure. I've never had to by one yet.
I replaced one of those on my column 5 years ago... and funny enough I was going through my garage today.. and I found the box it came in.. so I will get the FORD part # when I think of it. But Try a dealer.. it still might be available..

I don't know about the one in the collar, but my '79 had the NSS on the side of the transmission. When it went out I just removed it, and tied the hot leads together. I haven't tried to start it in gear yet :-)
Oh, and napa did carry the switch, I didn't get it because it was $60. I thought that was a little rediculous for a plastic switch.
