Hey guys, I have a 91 4x4 with a 302 and a aod tranny. I was doing some reading but couldnt really determine something. Were these transmissions weak? The one I have seems like it hesitates a little before it starts to move the truck. It doesnt slip or anything, and it works fine otherwise, so it just got me wondering if hesitation was a weak spot in these trannies!

I tend to disagree a little. The early E4OD's had their troubles. The AOD is weaker than the E4OD, but some software issues made the E4OD a turd in its earlier years. In 95 and 96, the E4OD was stronger than the 4R70W which used to be the AOD.
Well that sucks, since mine is a 91! But it seems good so far though!
I had a '91 that was completely beat to hell and not maintained at all, and it went solid for me until about 204,000 miles, I decided I had driven my last mile in it because of body rust and suspension issues that just weren't worth fixing....
The E4OD was solid the whole time. Shifts were really sluggish when I got it, but the fluid was still red, and a fluid and filter change fixed that. However, it had the 300-6, was 2wd and I never towed anything much over about a ton with it. I think the previous owner towed some awful loads with it, it had a 2 3/8" ball on the heavy bumper
Point is, unless you work it hard or get real unlucky it's probably OK, especially if the fluid gets changed often enough.
