speedo calibration

OK, i know this was discussed a few times, and i looked back 20 pages, but did not see it. what is the relation of speed versus gear teeth?? i am reading 6 mph low at 55 mph. rite now the truck has a 19 tooth gear in it. do i need to drop 1 tooth or 2 to get it to read properly?

One tooth should be plenty.

go down 2

an 18 tooth gear will have the speedometer read 52.1 MPH when the truck is actually going 55 MPH

a 17 tooth gear will read 54.8 MPH when your going 55 MPH, so I would go with a 17 tooth gear

OK thanks Dave. i had it all marked down somewhere on what gears i needed for both trucks and 2 of the 3 cars, but as age progresses, who knows where i put that dang piece of paper.
