I hooked mine up to upfitter #1 so I know when they are on and I know when they are off. As far as I know I was told that they were always on unless the key is off.
I believe on the 05/06 models there is a wire on the back of the fuse box that is green with a purple tracer that I cut and wire that over to my upfitters switch. Works with no problems but I don't know if the wire color is the same for the older ones.
I e-mailed Ford a few months ago and asked them about the heated mirrors. I explained to them that this was a p1$$ poor design having them on when the temperature drops below 40 degrees and they are on constantly. I explained that once the ice/mist(as the manual states) is removed it continually heats and turns the dirt and salt that was with the ice/mist turning the mirror until it is un-usefull. He stated that Ford was unaware of any problems with this design of having them on constantly. He could not give me any suggestions on how to re-wire them. He said if I did, I would void my warranty on the mirrors. Good ol' Ford no help with my PSD and now no help with the heated mirrors. Oh well, going to void my warranty so I don't get in an accident. I've only had my 06 for a few weeks so I haven't had a chance. I will post what I do in detail so you all can void your warranties too.
The heated mirrors are automatic, and only work at certain temps. I have heated mirrors, and I don't have to do anything to them. What is the problem?
