anyone having problems w/6 cd player?

i have in dash 6 cd changer (factory) on '05, and it acting strange, i just bought the truck 12/23. I think its a el cheapo. It wants to skip and do weird things on several cd's, only using slot 1. How do you get that plastic cover off? i think i'll put my Kenwood in there, and does Radio shack sell the plastic adaptor piece that will go back in, to look somewhat like the factory piece and fit nicely? (or anyone else) thanks!! paul

to get the cd player out you remove the front of the dash and unbolt the unit. are you using home made cd's? any with stick on labels?

Pull starting from the bottom just above the ash tray. There should be three metal clips on the left and the right side of th bezel.

My CD is doing the same thing! I only use new quality CD's. It skips and acts funny. I have not had it replaced because the dealer said they would have to remove it and send it off to be repaired and I would be without the whole radio and everything until it comes back. No telling how long that will take. I was also worried about more rattles after it was removed and put back in.

using a after market cd player is kind of a pain. the wiring is complicated. if the truck is under warranty just get a new 6 disc.

I've had no problems with CDs and mp3s I've burned playing in my 6 disk player.

Mine doesn't like to load discs, but once they are in there, they seem to work OK.

I have the 6 cd player, no problem for the last 2 years and 26K miles. It sounds to me some are having problems with self recorded CD's.

I have had the 8th 6pak Audiophile component stereo put in my 04 Screw Lariat & it does'nt work any better than the last one or the orginal. The dash cover has been removed so many times it is loose fitting now. Everytime they were to change it the serial # had to be taken from the unit in dash so it has been off 15 times. Mechanic who changed out the last one told me after little asking that they (dealership) have changed hundreds and seem never to work any better than the one being replaced. Another of Fords better innovations. Quality and engineering are missing in most things North American. We should be like the Germans instead of trying to compete with the 3rd world build the product to best of our abilities and charge for the quality. I for one would pay for the better product.
