He's got it, but said it has a different U-joint. So now I have the driveshaft sticking out of my buddy's Taurus driving to Napa to play the U-joint game.

That's what I don't get. There's no way this is a "rare" thing from Ford. There's millions of these trucks on the road. It's not Napa's fault though. The two guys there I talked to are older and know their stuff. Luckily, I"m going to talk to the guy that REALLY knows his stuff today (off yesterday =( ). Thanks guys, I'll let you know. Btw...the yoke was 1330...I hope this new one isn't 1310...

ford used a lot of weird joints. 1310s & 1330s, and ones that have two caps that are slightly bigger than 1310 and 1330 (respectively).

you should be able to find a conversion joint..

Got a yoke, but the bolts won't go through it that thread to the flange. I'm going to wait and see if I can get down to where he lives and see if the other one he has has the right stuff. Have to wait till he's out of church though. I'm all greasy and church starts in like 5 minutes...so I have to miss church now. Crap...

ford hasnt used a 1310 on anything in a long while

that joint will either be a 1330, or a 1335(two slightly larger 1350 sized caps)

Yeah, since 1978 I think, cause 1979 F150's and Bronco's both went to 1330.

I don't care if I have to roll in cold nasty mud, I'll go get the other yoke. Plus the next one is a 92 truck, so its even the same vintage as mine..hopefully closer.

Yeah, I think this yoke he has is a 1335 as you say, it's got the slightly larger caps on it. I don't care, I just want the truck running again. My roommate is cool and doesn't mind me using his car, but I don't like having to do it. I knew I should have brought in the bolts to make sure. I can probably try and sand out teh threads, but that isn't the best option.

No more showing off now. Those two kids that goaded you in to showing off should help you get your truck fixed. Hope you get your truck fixed soon. Hope there is no other damage.

Got the yoke off the second truck. It's installed, two new U-joints. Problem - I have a vibration in the driveline. I tried clocking the rear yoke around, but it still vibrates. It's minor, and can only really be felt right around 20 mph. So..I'm tryin to track down a driveshaft shop close by, but I've called and talked to a couple people and they aren't sure. CRAP. Good thing I took Teusday (My Birthday) off, I might be limping this thing (~40 mph...don't want to move a unbalanced shaft too fast, call me paranoid) a distance..

Heading over to a chapter-member's house (Weldinfreak), he's gonna see if I screwed up installing anything.

I feel for you and if it helps here's proof of my stupidity. A couple of weekends ago I made up some ladder bars for the Bronco. They work great. Only prob is too much throttle, traction and budweiser don't mix with 38's. At least it didn't blow the yoke this time-

That'd ruin my day. No joke.

I still have a slight vibration, but its only at 20 mph, and even when it is there it is minor. This in combination with the fact there are no local driveline shops - I've got a wait until I get out of town. I took it up to 55-60 (in a 35...but its the highway!) and I didn't feel any vibration coming out of it. There is PROBABLY a small vibration I just cannot feel anymore that remains, but I think its ok for the moment. Gonna talk to a place tomorrow that MIGHT be able to do it here in town.

Ok, anybody have any ideas on what could be vibrating? I don't think its a bent/damaged shaft because then it would get worse as you got faster, not just peaking at 20 mph abruptly, but being almost unnoticable any other time. Do slipshafts have to be oriented in any particular way? The U-joints are in properly, the only thing left that i can think of is the slipyoke on the T-case, but Monsterbaby said that it didn't matter how it was as long as the splines were engaging.

Actually, I hada bad u-joint that would do just that it'd get up to speed, and there were certain places where it'd vibrate, I coud do 65 and it'd feel like normal.

I don't think I have a bad joint though, they're both brand new straight from Napa, needle bearings are perfectly fine in both, everything. Maybe me and my buddy just beat it in there too much?

I understand, and appreciate it. Maybe I need to pull that bottom joint and install another one?

You could have tweaked the shaft. If the shaft isn't too bad, it is possible for it to vibrate at some speeds and not others (harmonics).

Plus, you might have bent the flange as well.

can you clock the yoke on the flange???
