Recently installed an MSD 6A box on an 85 bII. Replaced the plugs with high performance bosch plugs, wires with 8mm fiber core (cannot use solid core with the 6A) and the coil with the MSD TFI coil. Very pleased with the results. Better idle, much stronger at lower rpm, better throttle response, smoother high end.

either an msd 6a or 6al work best with a msd coil 8.8mm wires. but don't use bosch plugs they are made for european cars. in the long run you will run rich or get misfires etc... use motorcraft plugs or autolite.

Couple of hopefully easy qtns:

whats the diff btwn a 6a and a 6al, or can i only use the 6a cuz the 6al is for v8?

i dont know a ton about cars but im trying to learn, so what all will i replace in the process of putting in a new ignition?

so get 6a ignition, MSD TFI coil, motorcraft plugs, and what wires b/c u both said two different kinds and i have no idea where thats at on their website. Any thing else im going to need?

Thanks for the help

I think the 6al has a rev-limiter so you don't damage anything. I would go with 8.8mm wires and make sure they're not solid core like d2jc said. You can buy the MSD 6-series from Summit Racing. Check our site sponsors out first though.

6al has a rev limiter. purpose is to prevent damage to the engine from too hi of revs if you happen to be racing and miss a gear, or blow a diff, or something. chance of that happening?

6al is the best for safety to the engine.
