Rear axle question.

A guy at the local alignment shop told me that the rear ends on the 4x4 Fords are not as wide as the front. Is this true?

Rear axle question.

True. Take a look at any Full-size 4x4 and look at the way the front tires stick out a little bit more from the fenderwell than the rear end. the 4x2 trucks don't have this. By the way it is not that the 4x4 rear is narrower than a 4x2 rear, it is that the front end track is wider than the rear axle track. My early bronco does this too but to a lesser degree. Why they did this...I have no idea. The newer trucks (except brand C) seem to have gotten away from this.

Rear axle question.

Robert that was true until 73 when Ford widened the rear track to match the front. The front was widened in 65 with the twin I-beam.

Rear axle question.

The wider stance up front was *supposed* to help with traction when in 4wd.
