engine clean up

I have a 78 f150 with the 351M. I was driving along and the engine overheated. I have found a little dried up burnt oil in the engine and was wanting to know what the best way to clean it up without taking the whole engine apart. I do have the heads and intake off. What do I do?

Where did you find the dried up burnt oil?

When was the last time you had your radiator flushed/rodded out?

I had a hole in the radiator, thats why it overheated. I put a whole new radiator on the truck and put all new fluids in it then. I changed the oil before I drove it again after I finally got it home. I pulled the valve covers off and there was a good bit of dried oil on the springs. I have a new set of reworked heads to go on it. I haven't actually seen any dried oil on the crank or cam but I know some is there. Is there something that can be poured in the crankcase to loosen it up and then drain it out before i put new oil in it?

Sounds like varnish to me. It is common in engines. The best way to get rid of it is to use a very high quality oil and a cleaner like Rislone before your oil changes. The LAST thing you want to do is to dissolve it quickly and have it circulate in the engine.
