I needed to take the truck to the stealer today for what i thought would be a CPS replacement (under the engine warrenty). The dealer says he couldnt get any codes to show up. The truck has been giving a "buck" or Hiccup" every days ant anytime. it happens fast and no motor lights come on . It just hiccups and keeps on going. So dealer hooked up a "flight Recorder" to my truck today and said drive it for a week. I have to press a button when it happens to record the previous 30 seconds of informations from the motor ( it is delayed 30 second according to the mech) . Anyone ever have to do all this. And if so maybe this will point to the CPS after all. I ordered a new one on ebay for a spare for myself but i wanted this one fixed today because i have a long drive this weekend and didnt have the time to wait. Hope it dosent die on me this weekend. Jeff
With Ford doing so poorly financially, they may have a new way to handle the CPS problem now. I just had mine changed under warranty at 65k and they didn't make me jump through any hoops. But that was around 4 months ago, and before all the recent employee and plant cuts. Just talk to the service manager and tell him the research you have done concerning the CPS and that you are having the "classic" signs of it failing, and he should replace it for the $100 deductable.
Definitely CPS. "Hiccup" is a great description (I've also called it a "cough"), and when I took it to the dealer and they hooked it up to their machine, mechanic swore nothing was wrong. Before long, "hiccups" got more frequent and it occasionally shut off at idle at traffic lights, etc..
Hate that you're in warranty (I'd had a 3000 mile dealer warranty on used F250 2000 model diesel), but if you just want to circumvent the system and can spare about $100 and 15 minutes of your sweat equity, get the "blue" International Camshaft Position Sensor directly from an International parts dealer. It's heavy duty and well worth the cost. I installed mine about 2 weeks ago and my truck is running like a top with nary a "hiccup" or "cough". I'd swear it's smoother too. I believe that the part is called the DT-466. I just told them what I had (2000 Ford F250 with 7.3L diesel) and they knew what to get.
There's a post on here on how to change one too (or I could tell you) and it's good as gold.

Good Luck
