1981 302 wiring

Hello to everyone. I am a new member who has a 1981 F100 W/a 302. It has a new alternator and battery, but after driving the truck a short distance, it won't turn over to re-start. I checked the alternator and on one side there is a wire just dangling. The wiring looks like it was done with telephone wiring or something. Could someone please explain where the alternator wires are supposed to run to/from the alternator? Also if anyone has a wiring diagram they could share with me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Big thick fat yellow one goes to the Battery (BAT) post on the alternator.

Black (I believe it is, been a while), goes to the Ground Post (GRD)

Red (on mine), goes to the Field (FLD) post.

Sometimes you have a green wire that leads to the electic choke...this would attach to the Stator (STA) post.

This is the best I can do from memory...hope it helps you! Most these wires are around 16 guage, the the big battery wire is 10 or 8, so it is easy to tell. Anything like telephone wire is a jimmy rig!

I have several differnt wiring diagrams in my gallery. If that helps for 80 to 86. You might need Image Resizer from microsoft to get a better look after you save them. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx
I got it and use it. Thanks to one of our great members!
