Trailer Plugs

Hello all,
Right now I have the flat four factory plug on my truck. I'd like to upgrade to the Round 7 plug/4 plug combination. Does anyone know where I can get this plug - a wrecked truck or something. I've been checking ebay, but there are none for sale right now. Thanks.

Nate

A little more information is needed. What year and model of truck would be great.

If you have a late model, more than likely it is already prewired, but you will need the relays and fuses and the rear adapter plug.

Assuming you are talking about your 1999 F-350 I would suggest the Draw-tite 18243. You should be able to find it for around $30-35. This is a harness that simply plugs in to the existing wiring on your truck, and it even comes with the relays to activate the trailer brake circuit. The only hard part is finding a bracket to fit it to your truck. The ones they sell at most stores do not match the bolt pattern on the plug, so I ended up making one myself. Also, this is only a 7 way plug, but I just went to Walmart and bought a $20 7way to 6way/4way adapter.

Otherwise you can go with the Ford parts, but if I remember right they wanted something like $120 fr the harness and $20 for the bracket.

The draw-tite one that I talked about plugs right into a small connector at the back of your truck by the spare tire. Like I said though, you will have to find a way to mount it.
