zf 5spOD info

I'm looking at a zf to swap into my '77 f250 (400m, c6). I know nothing of these, except that everyone seems to prefer the nv4500.
The truck is rated 7500gvwr, 14000 gcwr, but won't be used quite that hard. Plan to use it for travel, aths events (www.aths.org), haul a camper, perhaps pull a travel trailer and occassionally some livestock.
Comments? Advice?

The ZF can handle that no problem, as they were used in F450's with a 20,000 gcwr.

They have a built-in bellhousing, in both SBF and BBF formats. I believe the 400M has the same bellhousing pattern as the 460? If I'm correct, it's almost a bolt-in.

335 and 385 series motors do share the same bellhousing pattern, at least in 1-ton and below trucks. The tranny input might be larger above that level (a friend's '70s f600 with 300/6 and np435 supposedly has a 1.5" input, whereas the standard on my engines seems to be 1-1/16", I think).
With a change in tranny mount, a hole in the floor, a home-made tranny hump, and the addition of a pedal/master cylinder assembly (which could be as simple as drilling 4 holes in the firewall), I think this would be a bolt-on.
My biggest remaining concern is reliability/longevity. The nv4500 is reputed to be better in that regard, though I've heard they have a nut which can come lose thereby leaving you with a handful of neutrals.
