Just tried to lower the tailgate on my 93 F-150 and the whole handle broke off in my hand. It always was a little harder to release than it should have been. Two questions:
1. Can I get this piece from FOMOCO? Will I have to buy the whole assembly for big $$$$?
2. With the handle broke off, how can I get the tailgate lowered? I have a plastic bedliner installed with the piece that goes over the tailgate as well. The tailgate piece is screwed into place, but the screws along the edges are covered by the sides of the bed when it's closed. I realize there's an access panel on the inside of the tailgate, but that's covered by the bed liner piece. Am I going to have to cut a hole in the tailgate liner to get this thing down? Just had a few minutes and thought I'd ask you good folks...I'm sure somebody has encountered this before. Much thanks.

If a '93 is the same as an '86 tailgate assembly, then....you should be able to look at the hole where your handle was and see two rods. These are what allow the tailgate to open when the latch is pulled. Just use needlenose pliers to disengage the rod and your tailgate should open. Once again, this assumes that Ford didn't change the design between '86 and '93.
had that problem with my 88F250,your tailgate should be the same.do the needle nose thing like the man said and it should open.ford wanted 35.00 for a new handle. got 2 from advance for 11.66 +tax each.
Thanks for the help guys...it took going to three different auto parts stores but I found a replacement handle for $18. And it went in like a breeze, once I got the plastic tailgate liner out of the way. And the handle works so much smoother with a lot less effort. If I had of known it would be that easy and it would work so much better I would have made this swap a long time ago. Thanks again.
