Hey guys 88 F-150 I6 4X4 4 Speed,
Hey I'm not having any luck getting my cruise control to work the fuses are ok and everything seems to be hooked up. Anyone got any ideals on what is keeping it from working. One thing that i have been wondering since my speedometer cable is broke will that keep it from working.
Well does my truck have the speed sensor on the differential or on the tranny or both. Also i have put 36" tires on my truck how can i make the speedometer read right after i get it working.
The speed sensor is on the tranny, pull combo out of the tranny and replace the gear with the right gear for your tires. If the combo device is bad then you will have to replace it also. The speedo cable and the electrical plug for the cruse both plug into this combo device.
I also have a 88 f-150 with an inop cruise control. I had the steering wheel off a while back for ignition switch work. The cruise worked after that, but just quit on day on the home from work. I changed my turn signal switch, as the brushes looked the side of a mountain instead of flat. this got my resistance readings going to the amplifer pretty close to what the shop manual says. Step 1 in the troubleshooting flow chart says to check the clutch switch. The book claims it's a plastic plunger switch mounted to the bake/clutch support on the side near the driver door. I've been under the dash looking for this switch, but can't find it. If anybody knows where this switch is, please let me know. The only plastis switch I see is the vacuum dump valve on the brake pedal.
