I should have my new F-350 V-10, 4.30, SDCCSB in about 4-5 weeks.
As a group, you guys are the best with your comments and recommendations; I've been mostly a lurker for the past two years and would sure appreciate your thoughts as to things to do/not to do to ensure that the engine, drive train, and brakes are "broken in" correctly. My present truck is over 10 years old and has always been babyed from day one and never left me stranded as a result(I am picky). I'm towing a 10,500# 5er now and may well move up to a heavier rig in the near future.
Thanks,
Tim
ford just states not to tow for the first 1,000 miles. then try to vary the engine rpm for a while. not much else. i would wait about 500 miles before i took it to redline. but its hard not to take it to redline its just to much fun.
do a search for fredvon4, he has a complete thread on how to break in your v10. I ordered 7 weeks ago and still no build date, when did you order yours.
timcommon, your dealer is able to give your truck a priority code. I know the owner of my local Ford dealership and dealt with him personally and my truck was here 4 weeks to the day I ordered it. Now whether your dealer did this or not only they know but just wanted to give you some hope of you having it in 5 weeks. Even 4 weeks seems like an eternity when waiting. Good luck !
Oh! By the way(new subject). As I am a Preventive and Scheduled maintenance nut(retired USMC aviator, test pilot with years of military maintenance and aircraft accident investigation exposure), naturally I had to intro myself to the shop foreman at my dealership and discuss several "things" on my mind as to breakin and routine schedules; he confirmed that the computer is set on these V-10 beasts to curb total available power until after 5K. Also he rolled his eyes when I told him that the sales people stated to just hook up my 10.5k rig and haul *** wherever I wanted to go. He said that's OK if you don't mind a lot of differential whine afterwards. Says a minimum of 500 miles of no towing to let those gears set in. I believe him!
Tim
he is right about the gear meshing , but the computer is not designed to limit power before a certain mileage. however you will notice by about 10,000 miles after the engine has broken in that there is a ton more power.

you need to come into the times of computers aand new fuel injected motors. to be brass tacked the v10 does have a cut back built into the computer for 150 hours or about 6k of driving,
as to this being fact every one of us owning a 05/06 v10 has felt this as a hard cold fact! over 150 hours. I can go one step futher i proved it on the dyno rollers with nisair. he had over 150 hours. that i did not. he had 40 hp more on the ground, when i went back at 7k and 165 hours, i also had more to start with then from the first time before we added the tuner
As to gear meshing and seating that to is hard fact just read the sheets that come with new gear sets , on break in. no towing for 1k.
we are in a computerized age of the auto and all have to learn whats new and true.

The dealer ordered mine on Jan 9. It came in on Jan 24, only 15 days. Sounds great except for one small problem. They ordered the WRONG COLOR. They ordered the oxford white instead of wedgewood blue. So truck was ordered again on Jan 25. I hope this one comes in as soon as the first. It also helps to be in the same state as the truck plant.
darn tim you should pm fredvon4 he was a aircraft tech in the army,
but now we are talking real planes like a tom cat. by the way i went up 1 time in a cat back seat off the flight deck on the carrier i served on. after that my call name was 3 bags
