Open Recall + Speedo Problems

Had my '06' F350 DRW in for service on the speedometer. I have about 11,000 miles and the speedo would stop around 70mph and not move. After a couple days it would work again.

Dealer says it's a known problem with no real fix yet. Solution right now is to replace the instrument cluster. Since mine wouldn't act up for service dept, I opted to keep driving. At least it's in the computer now.

As for the open recall , they said since the vehicle was in the shop, they would flash the computer. Not sure why it was needed, but they said it fixed a couple issues and changed the shift pattern somewhat.

As for gas mileage, it still sucks. They blame it on poor fuel, but I'm not so sure. I get a lousy 12.5 to 14.0 on average (highway). Around town, it runs around 12.0 mpg.

Other than that, I love the truck. Runs great, with no other issues.

Just got off the phone with the stealership and my guages are in and I made my appointment to get them changed.

Already had the flash and the dealership said they will put the sticker on my coolant bottle (new coolant level).

I had a similar problem with my speedo. When I would come to a stop, it would register 50 to 70 mph, then when I started moving the speedo would "spot" me about 50 to 70 mph. I had a little fun with my speedo being way off.....I would take a photo of my speedo when I was on the highway when it was registering 130 mph, then I would show it to my Dodge buddy and ask him "how fast will your truck go"! He still thinks my F250 will run 130 mph!!!
The dealership replaced the instrument cluster after having to wait about 3 or 4 weeks for the unit to come in from Ford. Our problem seems to be fairly common or the clusters wouldn't be on back-order.

Just gently flick the clear panel in front of the instrument cluster, that speedo will get un-stuck quick. My '02 did that all the time.

I had that same fuel milage. Before it was reflashed the first time i was getting 14-15 town and 17-18 freeway(that is lifted with bigger tires. I got 18.5 when truck was brand new from Oklahoma to Arizona running 85-90 tbhe whole way. All mileage was hand calculated.
