So I was out mudin with the buddies yesterday and right when I came out of a big mud hole my power steering pump went out. I never knew it but when the pump goes out your brakes go out. Definitely not like a gasser!! So when you are screwed with the PS pump going out you are really screwed. No pump no brakes! Anyways, I was wondering if anybody knows of a good brand to go with for the ps pump? I have big tires and big lift so I don't know if that matters or not but I would be grateful for some help. Thank you in advance!
if you go the napa route check the rebuilder sticker on it first. napa has gone downhill lately and its due to there 3 new rebuilders.
i would go with a reman cardone pump. better warranty. the pump runs 93.00 www.kragen.com
"The major cause of steering systems failure is contamination from deteriorating hoses. Hose replacement is recommended with any major component repair/replacement. Always install a new filter (part# 20FLT1) in the return line after replacing a pump."

Good point. I wonder if periodic power steering fluid changes would help preserve the hose liners.
so you think it is caused from hose deterioration?? I thought it might have just gone out from maybe getting to wet, not sure though. Fluid was not low! I priced a Cardone Pump with resevoir for about 65.00. I guess I will go with that. I was just wondering if there was one that might be a little beefier than the stock. It takes a lot to turn those big tires. Thanks for the help guys!
I went ahead and bought a Cardone with resevoir for 74.00 including tax from advanced auto parts! I also rented a power steering pump puller but don't know if I need it or not. Thanks for the input guys
Just an IMHO. I don't use hardly anyone but Auto Zone.
I had problems several years ago when Advanced and Chiefs bought out Western Auto. They kept the records, but the records are only at that store. I had a distributor that failed a year after I bought it. I went to both Advanced parts places I used, one had me for $3500 worth of entered items (items that have warranties) and the other for $5000. Neither would warranty the distributer, and the last one dared me to a fight. (that is sure to keep the customer happy, and trust me, I was gun cleaning mad by that point). Went across the street to Auto Zone and found the distributer for 1/2 the price, and Auto Zone has a world wide computer system. As pointed out by the counterman, if I was in France (Why?, not without nuking the *******s) with my 82 F-150 (again, why) going to EuroDisney, and the distributer when out, I could go to my local French Auto Zone (probably, at that time selling auto parts and ammunition to the Iraqi Government) and they would look me up, and warranty the item. I have had to do that, and it works (No, I wasn't in France when I did it).
Just my 2 cents on Parts Houses.
Had a steering pump tube/hose assembly eject from the side of the pump, Result fluid loss, steering loss, and brake loss. wanted to know if the tube that has the hex fitting on the pump just required new orings or if a new hose/tube assembly was required?
