I'm having trouble from time to time getting my truck to start, sometimes two or three times a week when I go to start her I get a clicking noise with no fire, no engine turning over, nothing but dash lights. I turn the key back to the off position and try again, sometimes she'll fire up but most of the time it takes two to three tries before she starts. The problem isn't all the time though, I can sometimes go for six to eight weeks with no starting problems at all and bam she starts acting up again.
Could the starter solenoid be sticking? Could the benedicts be hanging? I just put a new battery in her about two months ago. This problem has been going on now for at least two years if not longer.
Any help with this mystery would be greatly appreciated.
I doubt if it's the bendix or the solenoid. When the key won't turn it, can you jumper it with a screwdriver at the battery to the starter solenoid? If so, it's probably a problem with the wiring from the ignition switch (in the column) to the starter solenoid.
