i have a 73 econoline, the dipstick tube got rusted off, so i cant check the oil level, is there anywhere where i can get a tube? or and way i check my oil level with it broken, im pretty sure the dipstick tube was stuck back on, but it reads taht there is way more oil than i think there is, right now the engien leaks oil liek a siv, it was leaking out the dipstick,
heres the deal, oil has been put in the engien alot, it leaks alot of oil and we just keep pouring oil into the engine to make sure it has oil, so we have no idea how much it has now,
im gonna stock putting oil into it until it starts to tap a bit, then put liek 3 quarts in to level it out and make sure its near what it needs to be
also the oil gauge doesent work, any ideas of what could be wrong? where and what does it connect to? mayeb i can reconnect it,
im wondering how to check my oil pretty much, ive explained my problems, any help would be nice, i dont know if this is good enough for you guys.
The sender for the oil pressure gauge is toward the front of the motor. It's on the driver's side. looking down from the top look between the head and the timing cover. There should be a wire or line that goes down and into the block above the oil filter.
I believethat you can get a replacement dipstick somewhere, i'm not sure where at though. There is a sender on the front of the engine, on mine it's on the drivers side where ken75ranger said it was. If you have an electric guage, then look for a wire, if you have a mechanical guage, look for a little line.
Someone is puting a "new" dipstick in a timing cover that did not have them, so you can get the dipsticks i think. I'm not sure if you can check oil without a dipstick or not. Good luck, sorry i can;t give anymore help here, wish i could
They have the chrome dipsticks with tubes at Autozone around here. You could also just go yank one out at the junkyard. The tube that mine runs through is bolted in place with the bolt that hold the alternator on. Just take out the dipstick and undo that bolt and wiggle the tube a little and turn it back and forth and it will work loose and pull straight up on it. When i rebuilt my engine i took mine out of my timing cover to paint the tube. I hope this helps.
