Took my truck into serv dept to get the 2-3 shift clunck looked at. They showed me some bullitan saying it was normal. Let me tell you, it doesnt sound normal to me. Its actually kind of irratating, like a bad u joint sound, only on the 2-3 shift though. Are they just shining me on? Should I get nasty with them?
honestly, im not sure what ur 2-3 clunk is. I do have a problem with one of 2 torqshift autos i have being problematical (along with burning fuel and its only getting worse, or so it seems).
But, if u feel this adamant about it i may try to find out a dealership with a good service department and see what they say. Many of the issues with these engines are related to tech/poor dealer service. Not all issues but quite a few.
And im not bashing the 6.0, lol. Ive got one in my F-350 which is fine, but the tranny and engine in my E-350 are acting up. The tranny slips or engages with a bang sometimes (when warmed up) and the engine feels like its stalling (happens off and on). I was just recently following the E-350 in my F-350 and while the E-350 was "Stalling" it was smoking terribly. (white smoke, smelled like diesel)
I tell ya...mine clunks here and there...when she is more cold than not, or when I baby her or when not...if I romp on it, it shifts smooth as silk. Forget it dude...there is nothing wrong with it. Just drive it and enjoy it. The more you take it back to the dealer, the worse things will get. Save the dealer for the big one (like when it won't run). If the truck is new, give it time to break and get used to your driving style. And yes, fuel not burning right is black...white....may be a head gasket....sounds like water is in the system some where.

Correction to your post, fuel not burning properly would be white. Black is from too much fuel (over fueling)
its funny here.........I could say that I had a squeal in my rear muffler bearing and in no time flat the thread would be full of other people who's "junk" 6.0's have the same problem.......hum.......funny thing.........

Pretty much all of the TorqShifts clunk on the 2-3. Some are louder than others. You can get nasty with them, but there is no way to fix it. There is lash in the trans that gets taken up on the 2-3 and that makes a clunk. It isn't going to break anything, but I do agree it is annoying.
hey im not saying all or a majority of 6.0s are junk. As i said my F-350 has no problems whatsoever......id just like to fix whatever is going wrong with my E-350 thats all.
I know Ford cant be perfect, but id like to try my best to get it to run its best.
And yes, on cold mornings both of my 6.0s put out a little white smoke for a few seconds. Its a fuel related issue, specially since it smells like diesel exhaust A LOT lol.
I had the "bang" on up shifts , the lag when shifting between R and D , extreme harsh downshifts ...My 04 was not built durring the "recall" period , missed it by a month ... I was told this was normal , until , at 135,00 miles , the tranny stopped working ... $4,000 repair bill later and the bank is getting the truck back ...
I'd stay on the dealer , make sure you keep all of the repair/maintenance records , require all "inquiries" into this "problem" to be written down and ansewered by them .... when it come to dealing with problems , document document document ...

I had almost 12K on my 04 4X4 supercab 6.0, automatic. It never clunked when shifting between any gears. That just plain sounds wrong to me. The driveline should never clunk in my opinion while traveling in the same direction and just shifting up through the gears. I can maybe see a reverse to drive clunk. I have had some modified cars with really stiff shift likts in the past and they never clunked.
