Go with the oil specified in the manual. There is specific air compressor oil available for compressors that were designed to use it. Other compressors have been designed to work with regular automotive type oils. Probably because people did not know the difference and used automotive grade oil. When the units failed under warranty they were exchanged by dealers and the manufacturer found the wrong oil in them and would not honor the warranty to the dealer. Of course the end user went ahead and used the wrong oil again, but I doubt they were able to exchange them again. Follow the specs for your compressor to the letter. If in doubt ask the manufacturer.

I have an Emglo 1 1/2 HP compressor, designed for construction air tools.
Right after we got it, we were working outside in very cold weather, around O.
In the morning the compressor wouldn't start up without throwing the breaker a few times, and then we would have to put it in the truck cab just to warm it up.
When I called the dealer, they assured me that it had the proper oil in it.
So I changed the oil to 5-30 Mobile 1, and problem solved, I have used that compressor daily for the last 10-12 years, with never a problem.
I just keep clean synthetic in it.
aside from the oil for your compressors lubrication what type of oil gets used in say an inline lubricator for your air tools?
i'd hate to assume that every air tool i buy will tell me what weight oil to use or that even the lubricator i buy will tell me, cause with my luck i'll buy all my stuff then they wont say diddly squat about oiling them.
