LAST EDITED ON 02-Aug-01 AT 03:54 PM (EST)[p]just put a new motor in my truck, 351M, trying to stab the distributer and cannot do so, I am sitting tdc but cannot get the distributer onto the oil pump, any suggestions? One more question, is the oil pump supposed to be able to move?
Let me clarify, the oil pump is moving sideways, not turning
i had that problem with mine....yes, the oil pump shaft should be able to rotate....it took me about 45 minutes to get mine in one time....also, if you got a new distributor, it could be for a windsor...that happened to me..the parts store messed up....
The Windsor does use the same distributor with a different gear. But, I have this problem every time I have mine out. The trick is to use a long screw driver to turn the oil pump just a tad and try again. You might have to do this a couple of times. The oil pump shaft lies against the side of the hole and makes it hard to line things up.

I also had this problem. The oil pump shaft came disengaged from the oil pump. The dist would go in except for the last half inch. I took some grease and a 5/16 nut driver and worked the shaft back into the oil pump, then the dist fell into place. If you put the nut driver on the shaft you will have resistance if it is engaged. Hope this helps.
Hey, thanks for all of your help, I got it stuck last night after working on it for about an hour, but hey it is done now. Hopefully I will be able to fire her up tonight. thanks again.
