Hoping someone can help. I have a 99 F250 Super Duty ,Diesel Engine, Automatic, 4x4, Lariat package, power everything. My truck was the first production version in the new(current) body style and was actually discontinued before release. So although my truck looks the same, I have some different parts on/in my truck and motor than any other Super Duty assembled after 12/1/98.
Problem:
Last week when I turned on the heat in my truck I noticed that I am not getting any heat/air out of the lower vents that pour out on your feet, and I am not getting any heat/air out of the adjustable air vents on the dash that point into the cab. I do have normal heat/air blowing out of my defroster(thankfully) on the windshield, but not the defroster that splits the air between the windshield and the floor. Only the windshield part works. The issue is not lack of heat. My truck is still creating heat like a nuclear furnace, and the fan pushes tons of air out of the defroster. But I am not able to get it out of any of the other vents.
Before I try an tear into the dash board(which I have never done before), has anyone gone through this and know a potential quick fix or something to check before I do this?? My buddy said that that for me to get into the dash and find the problem, that it will take the removal of dozens of screws and hours of labor. Not being the most mechanically inclined person in the world, I was hoping to get some advice from some fellow Sled Heads. My feet are freezing when I drive. I need this resolved before I start towing up north, next week. I do not want to give this to a Ford garage for them to charge me hundreds of dollars to fix.
When there is no vacuum applied to the HVAC system, the default mode is defrost. Therefore, you should begin diagnosis by checking for vacuum leaks, loose hoses, etc etc.
Bear with me, I am not an expert Mechanic. I found the vaccuum pump. It is or is supposed to be on the passenger side wheel well inside the enine compartment. I see that Ford has these rubber mounts set up for it. well when my truck was in the shiop at some point I see a mechaninc must have removed this, and then rather than push those rubber plugs into the holes, they simply zip tied it. Well the zip tie broke and the pump was dangleing I have since repositioned the pump, but having trouble getting the rubber plugs back in the hole. Anyway there are two stems on the pump that have no hoses connected on it. I have a feeling that might be my problem, but I can not for the life of me find any hoses in the area that go to those spots. Are those there for future accesory addditons?
