Vacuum Switches
Little background here. I own a 1986 F150 5.8L 351w that is having some issues and I am getting the feeling that I am going to need to replace the Cold timing advance vacuum switch. Along with that I think I will also replace the other one that is there too. By any chance has someone done this and know the correct part? The stores I have check with have been unable to find the part. Even the Ford dealers are unable to get it.
At the very least I need to know the specifications of the part. That would be is it normally open/closed and does it need continuous power or impulse? From there I bet I can find a Humphrey or Skinner solenoid valve that will work.
Thanks
I assume you are talking about the 3-port ported vaccuum switches on the intake manifold/thermostat housing? There are part numbers cast into the plastic body of those valves.
Ford dealer was no help, however, Autozone was able to match those part numbers and find what I needed. They can also match by the color of the valve. When I opened the generic aftermarket box (GP-Sorenson, I think), I was pleased to find a new, original equipment, Motorcraft switch that looked exactly like the one I replaced.
Search the Autozone website and look for "ported vaccuum switch". I think you will find what you need.
BTW, I didn't realize how much those switches affected the power and emissions on my truck until I replaced them. Advance is much better and the emissions dropped over 30%.
Sorry if that's not the part you meant...
