If you find out let me know. I have to crank this thing till the cows come home sometimes. Other times it will crank right up. I think the fuel pump is loseing pressure, or an injector is leaking.
If I turn my switch off and on about 3 times to build up fuel pressure it will usually crank right up.
Mine is an early '03/4.6, that has a drivers side head with a loud tick, and now I'm ticked, because it ticks, and its barely out of warranty, and no one wants to fix it.
Before starting, turn key to RUN. Wait two seconds. Turn to OFF. Repeat once more.
Now hit the key to START. If it fires right up, your fuel pressure had leaked down while the vehicle was sitting. Most common reason for this is a leaky checkvalve on the fuel pump.
A fuel pressure guage would also be of help if you can get your hands on one.
