Exclamation engine buildup and other stuff

i have a 77 early bronco, it has a 302 engine in it but the guy who i bought it off of said its not the original engine but its still a 302, how do i find out what it is like year and such?

also i have some questions about a minor buildup, where can i find a good offroad cam? would like something that still has street manners but will do good offroading. also looking at getting a msd offroad 6 ignition, how hard is this to wire up with a aftermarket wiring harness, thinking of either the centech harness or the painless one, anyone know which ones is better or pros and cons of either? also my shifter is a column shifter, i found a floor shifter i would like from summit racing, the b&m truck megashifter bmm-80680, how much work is involved with converting over to floor shifter? which brings me to my final point of transmission, from the same website they sell the shift kit transpak, and the shift kit shift improver, whats the difference of the two? they are both for a c4. thanks for the help. -kris

ps - anybody know of any forums or sites that have to do with ford motors, or motor theory, would like to learn more about motors and theory.

Engine Year

On the side of the block there will be a casting number. For example a number beginning with D1 would be 1971. .Also sometimes there is a tag on the carb with engine ID info.Hope that helps.

For a camshaft I would take a look at the Ford motorsport catalog if you are staying with stock Ford heads.
The MSD should have what you need to just plug in.
The b&M shifter will also need mounting bracket and tunnel cover.
Ether shift kit will give you firmer shifts. You have to decide how hard you want it to jerk when it shifts.
As for motor theory, my theory is: the more money you got the faster it will go.
I would consider a long block crate moter or complete engine from a good speed shop. They usually come with dyno numbers and takes all of the guess work out of a build up.
