Rust on Drip Rail

I recently purchased a 1990 f150 4x4 regular cab. There is major rust on the drip rails over the doors on both sides and its begining to work its way onto the roof of the cab. the roof doesnt have too much yet but the rails are what is concerning me. Is it possible to remove the rails and if not what should i do?

Blast off the rust in the seam prime it and put a water proof sealer in seam and paint it. also you may want to take the head liner out and see if the rust has traveled into the inside of the cab.

Fiberglass, or you could shave (cut) the drip rails off. But that may be a little more involved than you're ready for. If you can't find a hand heild sand blaster, you could use a wire brush, or better yet, a wire wheel brush you could use with a drill. Then pick up a can of bondo hair ( fiberglass paste ) and a pack of spreaders at Advance. Slop it in where you need it, sand, prime and paint.

i have a dremmel so il prob figure out a way to use that, the fiberglass sounds like a good idea. I think i will just taper the rail so its about half as long.
