fusable link/alt Question

fusable link/alt Question

I'v got a '00 E-450 and on my way to work this morning the van completely shut off. No power anywhere. Found the fusable link to the starter relay was burnt. Replaced the link and was hooking the wires back up and burned that one up also. Could maybe the altanator regulator be bad and giving it more voltage and burning up the links?. This all happens as soon as I hook up the battery and it throws sparks. The key is also off position. The alt is 2 weeks old and also new batteries. Any suggestion would help. Most likely a major short somewhere after the starter relay.

Do you mean from the relay to the starter? or the relay? A frayed wire?

A blind guess would be a voltage regulator, but could several other things, including alternator that are before the wiring and circuits protected by fuses.

The problem can be from the starter relay to the alternator, or the main wire from the starter relay to the fuse box. The starter will have nothing to do with this problem.
