I have a 1986 Ford f-150. I barely fail emmissions testing. I have tried all of the ghetto fixes but sadly i know what needs to be done. I have to replace the catalytic converter. If i am going that far I was actually considering replaceing the exhaust system from the engine back. what i want to know is what exhaust system comes standard on the f-150. I was looking at catalytic converters on www.autozone.com and they have quite a list. just wanted to make sure i got the right one. due to money strains i have to go cheap for the moment. any suggestions.

Thread moved to 80-86 F-Series trucks forum. You should get some help here.
what size motor does your truck hav???? The enginer geniuses used different size converters for different motors. I would recomend finding a localy owned muffler shop and see how much they will charge to fix it for you. Most shops weld everythign up good so it doesnt leak and clamps and adapter and all that stuff adds up quickly.
beware of the dual cat systems in california trucks.
my 83 f-100 project simularly failed emissions. turned out the front cat
came apart internally and blew pieces into the back cat, blocking the exhaust
system partially. cost me 700 bucks to fix, as the front cat had to be completely
remanufactured internally as nobody makes a replacement for it. the back
one was only 180 bucks and was a maramont generic replacement. the front one
was 400. such is life in the peoples republic of california.
