There is a bundle of wires labeled "customer access circuits" or something like that just behind the radio. You don't have to pull the radio, just look under the dash behind it. There is a white wire with a light blue trace. That wire is switched hot when ignition is in run. I used it to power a relay that then powered my switch box for all my lights.
I also used the pass through wires so I didn't have to add extra holes in the firewall... Heck, they are there, why not?
