I have seen many superdutys running around with clearance lights mounted to the running boards (steps whatever you want to call them) and was wondering if anyone here has done so. Did you use a relay etc etc. I want to run leds and it seems that all of them have a very low draw? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advace

LED Running baord light project <<<<<<----- Heres a link to my running board light installation. Since they are LED, I powered them off of the tail light circuit.
My photo hosting site (Webshots) has been having some problems the last few days. You may have to click on the link a few times to get the page to display.
That looks really Cool!! How long did it take you to do?
If you have all of the parts on hand, it will take the better part of your day to do the project. You have to build yourself a good template, and cut and drill all of the strips of aluminum for the backing plates. The hardest part is cutting the openings in the running boards. The rest is easy.
I just drilled a bunch of holes in the aluminum, then took a flat file to square things up. A Dremel would work. You only need to make one template. The rest of the pieces you just cut to the proper length with a hack saw and drill a couple of holes for the screws.
deker9: get some slim running light and screw them right in to the pinch welds. i bought grote (i think) thin line clearance lights 3 1/2" x 1 1/8" they're self grounding. just screw em in where u want em and also drill a pilot hole behind the base of the light for the wire to sneak through. i wired all the lights to the parking lights. check out my gallery for a pic of them. i just noticed u have factory step rails, i have aftermarket. i dont know what kind of room you have with those but i dont think it would be a problem at all.
If anyone (who does not have factory running boards/steps) is interested in a very easy "no drill" way of adding marker lights to the sides of their truck, check out my galary (here's one of the photo's: Far Shot )
I used the existing holes in the body and mounted four of the M3 LED marker lights from here (two per side): http://superbrightleds.com/truck_lights.htm
I hooked them up to the small trailer connector at the back of the truck so they automatically come on with my driving lights. No wire cutting, no drilling and they don't look too bad.
