Clothes shrinks

Everytime I buy a nice cloth that's perfect when I first wear it, but shrinks after it's washed. And then I don't like the size anymore so I don't like the cloth anymore.

Sometimes, "stretching" it afterward works but I don't want to do that after every wash.

It also seems some clothes are more prone to shrinking than others. So it's really hard to decide which size to buy.

What do you guys do?

I normally just ask what's the matter over a beer. It saves a lot of money that way, and I don't look so silly taking clothes to a shrink.

OOOOOO......shrinking clothes...I gotcha now. Gotta read more than the title. I think cotton is prone to shrinking the most, but I might be wrong. I also think that temperature settings in the wash and the dryer should help. Colder maybe? Someone here has the real answer.

The only problem I have with clothes shrinking is cotton shirts which I just stretch after the wash if I decide to wear one. My closet is full of these shirts however that my wife keeps buying and I dont feel like stretching so I just dont wear them.

Look for Preshrunk on the label of clothes.
Don't buy clothes with the name of 3rd world countries on the label.

*Clothing Care*

Learn to wash in warm to cool water and rinse with cold

Don't Over Dry by putting it on the wrong setting for the dryer (use the timed Fluff rather than using regular or heavy load)

Learn to hang to dry those clothes you wish to last their size longer.

Don't wash and dry The Life out of your clothes by always having them in the laundry.

Be more careful when you eat ......or play in the mud

I don't have a problem with shirts or jeans shrinking, but anything I buy with the Carhartt name on it shrinks really bad the first time its washed.

Most of the shrinking takes place in the dryer. If its running too hot (which could be caused by several different things...restricted vent or overloading being most common) it will turn in to an oven and shrink certain materials.

Watch what type of detergent you use. Many of them have "enzymes" in them that cut down on the number of little thread ***** etc on your clothes. Those same enzymes "cut" the cotton strands inside the cloth also which will leave you with polyester etc rags in short order. Don't use detergents with "enzymes"...

Hang to dry, wash in cold water.

You've got to be kidding me. I just wear t-shirts, and if they shrink, I'll throw it away and buy a new one.

If I've got a nice occasion, I'll go buy something, wear it once, and toss it. Of course, I only dress for funerals and weddings.

I've been having a problem with my clothes shrinking as well. Mostly my jeans, it seems like they get smaller and smaller and I'm having more trouble getting them buttoned up...

Oh wait, I know what's causing it. Nevermind.

I just buy em too big, then let it shrink to my size. Like this one shirt I bought the other day. The missus could have worn it to bed it was so damn long; it would have sailed a mighty big ship. But the shirt shrunk I bet 25%, and now it fits perfectly.

When I got my first Carhartts I was told to never run them through the dryer, but to just let them drip dry - seems to work.
