Front door panel remove

Good morning, I seem to have a faulty door light switch in my 1998 Explorer Limited. All other doors, when opened will turn on the interior light except the front passenger side. Can somenone help me on the removal of the panel and replacement of the switch?
Thank you, Steve West

The door panel has screws under the door handle. Remove the plastic trim and the screws are right there. Once they are removed the panel pulls off, it is held on by plastic push-type pins. Start at a corner and pull straight back. Once one is loose you can see/feel where the others are. The switch is on top of the door latch.
Question: does the front passenger door make the chime when opened? I wonder if you have a broken wire in the harness between door and body.

reply to VICV

Good morning VicV, thanks for your advice. I will have at it in the very near future. No, the door does not chime when opened. You say the switch is near or at the top of the door latch, any further advice on it's removal?
Appreciate your reply and again, thanks
Seve

I've not had to remove my switches but have had the door panels off several times. With the panel off and looking at the door latch you should see 2 wires running to the switch. It sits on the top side of the latch. Since I did not need to replace it I did not "fix" what was not broken. I think only 1 screw/bolt holds it on. It looked very tight on my 97 so i'm happy I did not have to play with it. When you get the panel off you may want to check for power to the switch before removing it. If the switch is stuck open the dome light should stay on (classic case) but the chime won't sound. If neither happens the switch would need to be stuck closed as if the door was closed.

Hi VIVC, thanks for the advice, I assume you mean a chime as in when you leave your key in the ignition and open a door? I have not tried that but will do so.
Thanks, Steve

Well, bong, ding, chime, beep, whatever it does when the door opens with the key on. That's how I found which door had the stuck switch on my truck. Turn on the key and open the doors one at a time. The one that didn't make the "sound" was the one not working.

stuck switch

Hi VicV, I tried the key in and on and all doors except the front passenger door 'beep' at me when opened. also the dome light comes on when all doors except the front passenger door is opened. Stuck switch, bad switch or broken wire??
I will remove the switch and test with my ohm meter.
Thanks, Steve
