First off, hello to everyone! Been driving Fords since 1977. Bought a used 2000 dodge diesel 2 years ago and got rid of it. At the time we could'nt find a Ford we wanted. Wife is driving a '05 Jeep liberty crd, and we both love it. I'm looking at a '99 F350 super cab 6 speed with 176,000 on it . The owners bought it when it had 25,000 on it, body has a few brusies, clutch replaced 20,000 miles ago, engine sounds sweet, very little smoke. Needs brake work, RT front caliper is hanging up, TRE or ball joint on left side. Does $12,500 sound good? Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance.

I had a '99 F-250 with 95k miles on it without a speck of trouble I traded in for a '05 F-350. It had a 5 spd. I was unaware you could get a 6 spd.
anyway, I did this deal over a year ago and got a $12k allowance on trade then. So your price of 12k now with 176k miles is way out of line. I'd say walk away from that one.
I bought a 99 in Sept for $13,000. It had 150k on it and is a Lariat model. Exterior is excellent and interior is immaculate, and ball joints were replaced before I bought it. $12,500 sounds a little high with the conditions you described. If you like it, maybe negotioate down a grand or more if you can.
I baught a '99 250 a year ago, w/89k on a 5.4. Paid $15,000 for it, it was in great shape. I have put 15k on it and not a bit of trouble, it has been very good to me. You could probably find a better deal for one with less miles, its well worth being patient. Good luck,
i would buy it being a diesel. a 6 speed is a rare find. if it was a gas i would say you could get a better deal but that is a very good price on a psd. they hold their value a lot better than gassers. make sure the maintenence was kept up with and the coolant additive was put in. very important for a diesel. also find out if it is stock or has any performance upgrdes in it. if it has a chip or tuner it must have guages. if it doesnt walk away from it. you can do damage if you dont keep an eye on your engine. have someone that knows a lot about diesels look at if you dont know much about them yourself. my 2000 Crew cab lariat 4x4 blue booked at $17,000 with 200k on the odometer. i have not had one problem with it yet. they will last you 300,000 miles or more with regular maintence and some over 400,000. i would buy it. you will be amazed at their power, especially being a 6 speed

I bought a 99 last Nov for $9150.00. It had a small dent in it but otherwise very well cared for. I found one plug a little loose but that's all that been wrong with it. I've been busy changing out all the fluids. I got the deal because I was made aware of it 2 hours after it was traded in and got it before it went to the detailing dept at the dealership. I was able to verify that they gave the previous owner $9150 for it on a trade for an new F350. I put a Western Pro plow on the truck at their cost of $3900. Now, if it would only snow in Indiana!
I just bought my 2003 F250 SD SC SWB XLT V10 Auto 3.73s 87400 miles and paid $13,400. See my pic's. I think I got a GREAT deal...and yes, it is not a PSD, but you might want to talk the seller down if you can. If not, then walk away. Right now the "Used" market is in the toilet due to the "employee pricing". Lots of deals to be made!!!
To everyone who answered, I brought it home tonite, and yes they kept good records. They switched to synthetic oil about 70,000 miles ago and did oil analysis every 20,000 miles. They had to sell it, the owner suffered a stroke 18 months ago and has limited use of his right arm. And the few dents there is could be tapped out and you could hardly see them. So far it seems like a good solid truck.
