Utility of the spacers depends upon whether you plan to tow, and if so, how much. The thicker the spacer, the greater the "un-engineered" load on the bearings.

Hey, i have a 2001 dually. 6" donahoe all spring with some 315/75/16 goodyear mtrs. I have 2" spacers in the rear, no worries. No problems with the spacers, dont get those cheap ones off ebay. Get the good ones (hub centric) I load up my truck with a camper, use it for my car trailer. The spacers work great. I will add a 2" hanger kit and run the 37/12.5/17 mtrs next.
cheers
hey email me for some pics.

You can look in my gallery and that's what a 4.5" lift w/stock 235/85/16's looks like. I'm throwing on 35" Super Swamper's hopefully next week. I would research (more than just FTE, but we're a great start) bolt-on (not slip-on) spacer's before you get them. It will make you feel a whole better if you decide to go with them. Would I use them? Yes. I'll be using 2" spacers w/the new tires. How big of a tire you go to depends on you and what your willing to do. Your truck came with 6" wide rims and that limits you in terms of sizes that you will find that will also be within the tire manufacturer's recommended minimum rim width. Now if the manufactures rim width requirements aren't important, you can shoehorn just about any tire size you want on the rim. How safe is that? I don't really know. I wouldn't do it. If it is important, then you can either have a wheel company widen a set of stock steel wheels, or go with a 19.5" rim, but the 19.5" wheels don't have anything but street tires.
