2001 5.0 V8 AWD Performance

Hello all,

I was wondering if there were any performance parts that could be had for the 5.0 V8 Explorer's? Aside from hopefully buying a K&N cold air intake. I noticed that under mine, I have 2 cats. I know true duals have been done, but what about just one Flowmaster?? What about a chip??? I know there have been some posts regarding flowmasters, but not chip's???

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm not looking to race mine, just want some tuning tips to gain a bit more MPG....

Thanks,

Depends on the budget, but for the best power per dollar - get a K&N or Mac for an intake, get a set of Torque Monster or FMS headers and have some type of custom exhaust built, and get a chip or tuner. Besides getting radical or doing anything that concerns going into the engine, those three things will give you the most performance.

I recommend the Torque Monster headers over the FMS because they are twice the header and give you twice the power, but they are also twice the price. For exhaust, I would have 2 of the cats removed (or remove all four and use 1 2-in-2-out Catco high flow cat), use a Flowmaster 50 series Delta 2-in-1-out muffler, and 3" single pipe out the back. For a chip or tuner, I would look at Diablo chips or SCT X-calibrator tuner.
