I have a 2000 Excursion 4WD. It makes a rumbling , vibration when turning at low speeds. I am sure that its my limited slip causing this problem. I had the rear end fluid replaced at a Valvoline oil change place and told them to make sure to put in the fluid that has the additive for limited slip rear ends and it didn't help at all. I actually think it is worse now. Do I need to go to a Ford dealer and get a special additive or is my rear end going bad? Thanks
there is and an additive that needs to be added when the fluid is changed. some fluids have the additive already in them but i have heard in quite a few cases that when using that type of fluid the LS still chatters a bit. the additive can be purchased and you ford dealer. to eliminate the chatter but get the best performance out of your LS add the additive a little at a time then test drive it, add just enough to get rid of the chatter
the chatter is the clutch pak, after the intro of additive,it will take awhile for it to massage itself into the clutches-be advised that the recommend rear diff fluid is synthetic based, dont know if the qwik lubes have that, very expensive in comparison to a base diff fluid
I had the same problem with my 2000 EX, only mine was also leaking from the pinion seal. I took it in to the dealer and he said the vibration was worn clutch packs. I had them rebuild the entire rear-end, being that it had 100K on it and the pinion was leaking for the 2nd time. Cost me $900 for everything.
How much should I add? I bought one small bottle from Ford and it helped for a little at first, then got bad again, I added about 1/2 of another bottle and it didn't help. Should I add more? Think my clutch pack is toast? How much to get it fixed? Thanks
I had a '99 F250 that did that too. I let it go on for about 25k miles, then I traded the truck in. Now my '01 EX has 124k and it is starting to do the same thing.
