Exhaust - $250-450 - depending on shop and which muffler(s)
SCT Tuner - $300
That is the cheap mods you will see any outcome from. Most anything cheaper than that is just a waste of money and you won't see anything from it except delusional seat feelings...
After that, a set of headers. After that, you will have to start getting into the internals to make a big difference on a 4.0...
www.supersixmotorsports.com has a lot of performance upgrade options for the 4.0 sohc. Also morana motorsports is developing a 4.5 stroker kit for the 4.0.
found a nice NOs system on jcwhitney, almost 600, but it could double your hp or so it says. the part number is ZX263770 (www.jcwhitney.com) if you interested. everyone talked me out of putting it on mine, but if your looking for something that will do the job, this might work, says it can go on stock. also you could do one of these, for power and saving money on gas ZX508027U (also jcwhitney.com). its around 350. it also turns off your speed governer so you can go past 100 mph.
One of the best investments that you can make, is a bama chips programer, Doug knows how to squeez every hp out of a ranger with his tunes, and it can be returned to stock in acouple of minutes Nos can be hard on your engine, and it only works until the tank goes dry, not very practical for a street driven truck. There's headers, intakes, catbacks, e-fans, udp, cams, heads, it all depends on what your looking for. Because you have a 4x4, torque can be more important, than hp. Bama also has a torque tune.
Sounds Great guys... Keep E'M Comming... Also...
What ACCESSORIES have you all added to your truck... for that "Custom" Look... I was thingkin of a bushguard w/winch, roof rack, Lights all over and maybe some wider tires... Let me know what you all think, and what you've done!!!
I've got some lights in the grille and bumper kinda hidden, a CB, good sound system, headlights, tailights, clear corners, neon, couple of emblems, exhaust, painted accents, blackout tires, that's all I can think of at the moment. There's all kinds of stuff out there for the Ranger. I just can't seem to find a bull bar, which is what I really want.
On my 04 sc 4x4 4.0, 5-speed, 4:10 gears I have headers, catback, intake, e-fan, udp, programer, BFG 265/75-16 ta ko's, 2" t-bar crank, fx4 level 2 skidplates, shifter, insterment cluster. Also wet kole seat covers, tru-trac lsd, hella 500 fog lights mounted on a carr front bumper light bar. Still thinking about doing a roll bar with KC's, but not sure yet. "O YEAH", since my truck is white, I put decals on the sides so it kinda stands out, not so bland.
Look under your rear diff and see what the tag on the far right upper bolt says. For example it will say 3 08 for 3.08 or 3L73 for a limited-slip 3.73. That's your rear end ratio. If you got highway gears (say 3.08s or 3.45s) you could benefit from an upgrade to 3.73s or 4.10s, and they are fairly cheap. But since you got a 4x4 you'll need front gears as well.
And since I didn't say in my last post, I got a '94 XLT, reg cab, 4.0L 5 speed
