I installed my gauges today and they are great, but I only get 15 PSI on my boost gauge. Does any one out there have any ideas on whats wrong? Thanks, Tim
What mods have you done? Is your wastegate still "plugged in" so to speak? Do you have a Kwik filter setup? You might also have a boost leak. The 5-way Y-pipe is notorious for the clamps loosening up and leaking boost. Especially the orange ones on the bottom that go into the engine. Try tightening those clamps up?
jtharvey- the only mod that I have done is the 10k mod and muffler delete. The gauges are autometer auto-lites and I followed the inst. from dieselmanor.com.
I took out my AHI and that is where I plugged in my boost gauge, could that be the prob?
No, I don't think that's your problem. You might have a small boost leak at the clamps, but given your fairly stock configuration, I'd say that's not too far under what a stock system should run for boost. Maybe a couple of pounds higher, but not much. For your turbo to make boost, you've got to be able to get air in and out easier. The kwik filter / NAPA 6637 filter setup will let more air in. The muffler delete doesn't do much for airflow, just makes the truck louder. To get maximum exhaust flow out, you'll want to get a full turbo-back system. Then, if you want more boost, unplug the red line from the wastegate and plug up the end of that line with a bolt or just put on the end of one of the bolts on a boost tube clamp.
The AIH plug is the optimal place, IMO, to plug the boost guage in. See my gallery, it's where mine is too.
Here's what I would do if I were you. Go check all the clamps on the Y-pipe and make sure they are all tight. Then see if your boost goes up. Then try unplugging the wastegate red line. See what happens to your boost then.
Thanks jtharvey. I checked all my clamps they are fine. I un-plugged my waste gate, now I'm going to go for a drive. I thought that stock boost was up higher near 20 psi that was my concern. Thanks for the help. Tim
