is there a way of testing a headlamp switch? I have a 89 f-150 i opened the door the other night and my interior light didnt come on , so i started the truck put the head lights on and turned the **** to turn on my interior light on and bam heared a pop no dash board lights. I replaced the fuse still no lights as soon as i turn the head light know out goes the fuse. I am thinking that my switch is bad?? any thoughts or ideas
You could test it wth a multimeter if you have a manual that tells you what each terminal is on the switch. Personally, I would just go get a new switch. Ford has used that same switch for many years and they do go bad pretty often. I just replaced mine about a month ago. I got mine at Napa for about $12
ok replaced the switch and no luck. the old was bad it was all ucked up and the spring on the resistor wasnt conected. so i ran a power wire to the spot on the switch for the lights and it would light up, but the wire got super hot,s o is there a relay or fuse link for the dash lights? i checked all the fuses, one other thing i installed a radio last weekend, and the lights on the radio stay lite all the time it does not dim dowm, could this have something to do with it. I used a wiring harness so i know no wires are mixed up
It sure sounds like they're related. Disconnect that wirring harness and see if the problems still there. If the problem is gone then its the harness or the radio.
ok call me what you will but i went and checked the fuses a third time this time by pulling them and testing them with a test lamp and low and be hold one was blown upper right corner, 15 amp. I went and bought some fuses and bam all lights works and im good to go
