I have a high speed dedicated IP internet connection running Windows NT 4 Sp 6 server. I have my website up and running about only available by using its IP address in the internet explorer. How do I get a www address to look at that permanent IP address so that people dont have to remember the IP?

You have to set up DNS. If you simply have a static IP on a DSL connection you may not be able to do it. You could still register a domain with one of the registrars that give you one html page that can be hosted with them, then make an html document with a refresh tag that will forward anyone that types the domain to your IP address.

Setup DNS on the NT server or through someone/somewhere else. What would I enter as the DNS information?

It is a little bit more complicated than what you think, but there is another workaround for people with home connections that want to host their own websites. You will have to do some reading to find the exact information you want, but it is on this website. I would link directly to the information, but they changed the website around and I can't find it immediately.

I think you would set yourself up as the dns server with the register of your domain name, I could be wrong tho

Register a domain and have it point to your IP. I have used mydomain.com before, and they have been great to me so far.

Medic66, Setup a domain name with godaddy or similar, then use the redirect to direct to your IP. THey also have a mask that will show the url instead of the IP.

Make sure that you find a good registrar. Some of the shady ones won't let you change any of the settings for the domain. Also, they won't let the domain go should you change registrars.
