I just recently finished a conversion on my sons 77 Highboy from the power assist to a 79 F 250 4x4 gearbox. Let me know if you want more info & pics. I used some of the idea's from here on the site, and did some of the things myself once I got into it.

i've been considering the same swap, some pics would be nice
There are some pics here, as well as some bodywork pics taken at different stages of the project. I have some more gearbox pics that I will add soon.

We used a 79 F250 4x4 gearbox. We had the front end off the truck & that made things much easier. We removed the old gearbox, steering shaft, sector valve and draglink, ram, etc.... We welded up all of the holes from the old gearbox on the frame. We looked at the pictures found in some of the galleries here, and cut the crossmember to make room for the new box. We then used a piece of frame rail to box out the main frame, and boxed in the section we notched out. We also welded a piece of 1/4" plate to the outside of the frame, just for "overkill" We set the box in place using the steering shaft that came with the 79 box to get the right position. Unfortunately, the ends on the shaft were different than the 77, so we ended up ordering a new shaft from Borgeson with a vibration dampener. We had to get a drag link made up to connect the pittman arm on the box to the steering, and found a local shop that did this for us quite reasonably. We set the box in place, spray painted to get the bolt location, drilled 2 holes, set the box in place and then drilled the second 2 holes thru the box while in place. We used a 79 power steering pressure hose, which we had to cut one end off, then cut a double flare fitting off the 77 hose and install on the 79 hose.
