You need a special AC/fuel line disconnect tool. The most common are in plastic but they are not always strong enough to diconnect the fuel filter. Parts stores sell a metal tool that looks like pliers. The size shoud be 5/16.
You slide this on the line into the fuel filter and it pushes the pins in to disconnect the filter. It helps to spray some WD-40 in first to clean out dirt andd loosen it.
Also don't forget eyewear the gas can spray out. You can pull the fuse for the fuel pump and crank the truck over first or depending on the model there is a valve to relieve pressure on the fuel rail. Normally left side of the motor up front. My 98 Explorer had no pressure after sitting overnight but not all are the same.
summit sells the tool and so do parts stores. summit sells the real good metal tool the parts stores sell the pastic ones which are hit or miss and a lot of frustration.
