Airport Security

What is it like nowadays at the airport when you're boarding on an airplane cause I've heard that they totally increased security since the 9-11 attacks? I've ridden on an airplane within about 2 and a half years before the terrorist attacks and the security was at a moderate at the time.

Can we say bend over and spread them butt checks?
No the security is not quite that bad, the rules have actually be relaxed some lately. I do believe small pocket knives and scissors(under 4" rings a bell) are alowed in your carry on now. Check with the airline for a complete set of rules.

Security is tight, but if you play by the rules you won't get harrassed (unless you are one of the lucky people picked for random screening). A good website to checkout is the TSA site, it will tell you everything you need to know.

Lemme tell ya that's fun, the guy who screened me couldnt speak any english, so that took awhile, Another way you can be lucky is if some terrorist chose your name as his and its now on the no fly list, My brother was the big winner here.

I was working out of town with another guy from the same company. We drove down there in the company truck. Plans changed, and I had to return home while he stayed there. He got on line and bought me a one way flight home, using the company credit card which was in his name. All the flags were flying. When he dropped me off at the airport, I started disrobing at the door.

I really appreciate you giving me the link to the forum, I'm glad to see that the rules have been relaxed compared to what it was years ago after the 9-11 attacks, I would like to fly to Texas someday and I wanted to know what I should do before I travel.

I was watching the news the other day and it was about Osama's latest video or voice message he had left. I thought it was interesting when they said something to the effect "The reason there hasn't been any major attacks in America since 9/11 isn't because of the stepped up security, it is because we are still in the planning phase."

I know they "check" everything now when you are going through security. But the past couple of times that I have gone through, the people that are supposed to be watching the x-ray screens have been there laughing and talking to fellow co-workers. This isn't something they did for a second or two and got back to work, it was the entire time that I was waiting in the line.

I'm not saying anything bad about all airport security, I'm just saying maybe the ones who are hired should be watched more carefully to make sure they are doing their work properly.

Security is not all that bad, I fly fairly often, at least every couple months, and I find it fairly easy. Although I will say it depends on the airport you happen to be in. I find Dulles and Vegas seem to get you through the fastest. Atlanta I dread going through and I'm there at least 6 times a year, screeners there seem to have a chip on their shoulders. The rest seem to be about the same be it a small one, Little Rock, or decent size, Detroit.

Just follow the rules and you'll have no problems, although last minute ticket purcahses always seem to raise eyebrows and tend to get you looked at a little closer at least that has been my experience.

Sorry chief, but thats not a good thing. I'll gladly take my shoes off, walk through a metal detector, not travel with hazardous items and show some ID if it keeps me and the rest of my fellow Americans safe.

I don't think that its a good thing to be relaxing security. We are becoming complacent again.

I was in the Navy Reserve with orders to Fly to Virginia, and had my military ID card and orders with me. So when I get to the airport to check in, the gal at the counter won't let me check in, takes my ID, and says she'll be right back. About 5 minutes later, 2 guys from TSA come up and start questioning me about who I am, where I'm going, etc. all because a member of the IRA, who was in a british prison at the time, has the same first and last name as mine.

And I don't believe there's any such thing as "random" screening. My wife and I were flying to the east coast once and had to change flights a couple of times. Each time we changed flights, as soon as the person at the gate saw our tickets, we were pulled out of line and search. That isn't random. Were both in our fifties, I'm military and my wife looks like a grandmotherly schoolteacher. Which she is.

Are you allowed to wear boots while boarding on an airplane?

If I was to purchase a plane ticket I would buy them within a month or so before I leave, do you recommend me buying them off of the internet?
