Smile FM Signal Booster

Has anyone used one of these before? If so, did you have good results? I have seen several of these and would like to have one if they work. If you are happy with the one you have which one is it? Thanks

I used one in high school. I really didn't get any great reception for the box. If your wanting good radio stations, go satelite, its well worth the small amount of money you pay. Nooooooooooo commercials.

They are nothing more than a broadband RF amplifier. End results are a mixed bag. They will amplify white noise as well as the signal, giving you a few db of noise and signal gain, often without increasing the signal to noise ratio. Their best application is to increase signal gain above transmission line loss (attenuation). This will not be a problem with the five feet of coax between your stereo and the antenna in a car or truck.

You would be better off with a good tuner. Antenna improvements can help, although mobile antenna design is a compromise between receiving signals and not blowing off the vehicle when you are going down the road at 70mph.

Well, I tried them maybe 20 years ago from Radio Shack, they boost everything along with static and give you a AM listening experience.

Alright, I guess I'll just forget about it then. Doesn't sound like what I am looking for at all. I have a Kenwood CD player and it tunes great. I just wish I could pick up a couple of stations better. They work ok about half the time and then other places I go they don't work at all. I guess I'll just have to live with out them. Oh well.

I just hate that. I live in a large city. You would think large cities have the best stations, but they don't. They have 30 stations that play the same crap. The smaller cities at the other end of the Sacramento Valley are much better, but I can't receive them well in the truck. I have an outdoor VHF antenna pointed north at home. I can hear them quite well that way.
