Hello,
I have a 352 FE, and I want to put a supercharger on it. I cannot seem to locate anybody that sells a kit for one, and search results on this website have lead me in circles.
I am just looking for ANY supercharger that will fit and bolt onto an FE motor. What intake do I need? Can I put fuel injection on top of the supercharger instead of carbs? How will the belt be ran? Do I need to change pulleys?
Well, I have a std 6-71 supercharger on my 390. Blower Drive Service is the place to get a complete kit. I think they are around $3600 for an FE. That will get you the basic pieces, less carbs(or induction). They sell a fuel injection system if you like. All depends on how deep your pockets are.
I still run a single V belt for waterpump and alternator. I have electric fans on radiator which makes a cleaner, easier set up.
BDS.com should get you to their webpage. Maybe a variation of that anyway.
Doug Herbert Racing sells a 6-71 kit for FE on his site. Do a google search as I am not sure we can post the web site here. Is it a fresh build? I have wanted to do this, but for can't justify 3600 clams. His kit includes every thing you need.
In the galaxie it all fit fine. I know that if it was in a pickup there would be clearance issues, just from eyeing it up with a tape measure. The cowl sticks out too far for the manifold I have, but if you made one and moved the plate forward it would clear.
Ya, that price doesn't include everything. Carb linkage, fuel lines, etc.....it ads up really quick like.
I think I found the one I was looking for at bds. But whats the difference between 1v, 2v, and the 3v kits? Are those the number of belts?
Also, this will be going into a truck. Could I just have an offset spacer made to move the blower forward about 1.5 inches? It would go inbetween the blower and intake. It would slant back to acheive the offset. Would this work?
Ya, I think the "V" is number of V pulleys. I ordered my kit with 2, though only needed one(for alt/waterpump). The second one I got just in case. They stack so you can pull them apart.
With my Blue Thunder intake, it mounts the 6/71 right in line with rear of intake, basically. So, if you look at your truck and motor location, look directly up from rear of intake and see what's in line with it. Now, depending on which intake BDS uses, this may change. Is it a welded 4bbl manifold with plate or like mine, a true blower manifold? I used the 3" spacer to raise blower to use stock dizzy. It's available thru Blue Thunder, not sure what BDS offers? If not, you need offset drive dizzy(more money-yehaw). I was on a budget, a real tight one.
Even if you mounted the blower directly on manifold, I think with the carbs and air cleaner you will get into trouble with cowl sticking out. That is something you need to work out before you get in too deep.
The 6-71 is a smaller blower than the 8-71 right? and you said you have one on your FE. Why do I only see an 8-71 kit for FE's. Maybe the smaller 6-71 blower will fit without problems.
Oh, and I believe they use the blue thunder intakes. So I could use a spacer and offset it forward 1.5 inches, like you did. But mine would be offset. Where did you get a spacer for the blue thunder intake?
I'm not sure the bolt pattern difference between 6 and 8/71. Might be same, just longer case on ends? This would probably make it even harder to fit in pickup. Of course the pictures on BDS don't show actual parts so it's a guess what you get.
The spacer was from Blue Thunder and came with intake(I ordered it with it). I'm sure if you wanted to offset it forward it would have to be custom made since the piece I got was a casting not a machined block. When I built my set up..it was pieced together, with drive from BDS, and intake/spacer was purchased thru friend that is BT dealer. It was not a complete kit from BDS.
I can get a picture of my set up sometime this week. It's in a car, but will give you the basic of what it looks like.
You can get any boost you want. It all depends on the model you get and how fast you spin them(like a big blower). It would be easier to mount up then a big blower, but won't have the OOHH factor!
